KB46850: Custom Date Format 'q' doesn't work in Flash mode in MicroStrategy Web 9.4.1

SYMPTOM:
When users customize a dynamic text field {Max ()} to 'q' in "Properties and Formatting -> Number -> Custom", the field returns 'q' instead of quarter in the Flash mode in Strategy Web 9.4.1. The dynamic text field shows the quarter correctly in the other modes.
 
STEPS TO REPRODUCE

• Create a new metric based on the Day attribute: Max ()
• Add the metric to the document template as dynamic text.
• Set the format to 'q' by right-clicking on the dynamic text and choose Properties and Formatting -> Number -> Custom.
   
  

• Run the report services document in Flash mode in Strategy Web 9.4.1. The field returns 'q' instead of the quarter.
   
  

• Run the report services document in the other modes, such as the Interactive mode. The quarter shows correctly.
   
  

CAUSE:
This is a known issue of Strategy Web 9.4.1.
 
ACTION:
Contact Strategy Technical Support for an update on this issue.
 
WORKAROUND:
Instead of formatting the dynamic text field to 'q', users can insert a new metric with the formula: Quarter(). Add the newly created metric to the document template as a dynamic text field. The field should return the correct quarter value in Flash mode as well as the other modes.
