How to change the default log file path for MicroStrategy WebServices 9.4.1 and above

Some administrators prefer to configure the logs paths of their applications to be saved to a custom location for easy access and common place for all log files. To do this for the Strategy WebServices the administrators have to edit the mwsLogger.properties file. This file is located in the same directory where WebServices is deployed.

STEPS TO FOLLOW:

  1. Edit the mwsLogger.properties.
  2. Create a second file handler, for example fileH2. Modify the rest of the elements accordingly to represent that new file handler.
  3. Here is an example:

Sample Code/Error

fileH2.append=false
fileH2.class=com.Strategy.utils.log.DatedFileHandler
fileH2.count=4
fileH2.formatter=com.Strategy.utils.log.ExtendedFormatter
fileH2.level=SEVERE
fileH2.limit=262144
fileH2.pattern=desired_log_file_path
handlers=fileH2
level=SEVERE

Save and restart the Web Services server service.
NOTE:
The original file handler "fileH" can be modified as well. However, the current design of the product will overwrite the value set there with the default location.
