How to disable Cloud Maps for ESRI Visualizations in MicroStrategy Analytics Desktop

Strategy Analytics Desktop users can disable the Cloud Maps solution for ESRI Maps VIsualizations. This might be necessary when users have connectivity or network strict rules that prevent the host computer to perform a TLS handshake with www.arcgis.com. For more information on connectivity requirements refer to KB46526 "What are the connection requirements and data flow for the ESRI Maps in Strategy Web".

TO DISABLE CLOUD MAPS:

  • In the host machine for Strategy Analytics Desktop locate the following file (typically):

    C:\Program Files (x86)\MicroStrategy\Client\resources\webapp\WEB-INF\xml\config\esriConfig.xml

    Note: make a back up of this file and save it in a different location.
  • Edit this file and change the "default" parameter in the <webmap> node to false so that it results as below:

    <webmap id="5fac74d8e7924e169afdc01105235324" default="false" />

  • In this file also copy the URL contained in the <bm> node and save it for use in future steps:

    http://services.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/World_Street_Map/MapServer

  • Save the File

  • Also in the host machine locate the following file (typically):

    C:\Program Files (x86)\MicroStrategy\Client\resources\webapp\plugins\_Personal\WEB-INF\xml\config\esriConfig.xml

  • Edit this file and also change the "default" parameter in the<webmap> node to false so that it results as below:

    <webmap id="5fac74d8e7924e169afdc01105235324" default="false" />

  • Add the URL copied in step 3 to the <bm>node in this other file so that it loos similar to:

    <bm key="default">http://services.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/World_Street_Map/MapServer</bm>

  • Save the File

  • Quit Strategy Analytics Desktop in the Windows Bar Icon as shown below:
