"Unable to create address with the properties passed: (Absolute path (...) is not supported. Please specify a relative path.)" error occurs when adding physical address in MicroStrategy Web 9.x

SYMPTOM:
Following error may be encountered when a Web user creates a file subscription and wants to add his own physical location:
Unable to create address with the properites passed : (Absolute path (device name: xxxxx, path: xxxxx) is not supported. Please specify a relative path.)

CAUSE:
This error occurs because an absolute path is provided as file location on the device level already.

Please see the screenshot below for an example of the device definition:

The user cannot specify another absolute path reference to a location because the file location is determined as:

Sample Code/Error
<path from device>|<path from subscription physicall address>.

In the example above, the file location would be:

Sample Code/Error
\\<machine name>\Shared_folder\\<machine name>\File_source

which is not a valid location and thus rejected.

ACTION:
Consider the following approaches to avoid the error
1. Define file location on the device level and do not allow end users to specify user entered paths
2. Define the device without a file location and allow users to enter their own locations
3. Define file location on the device level and allow end users to specify a relative path
