Strategy Cloud customers who require data encryption at rest due to the HIPPA Security Standard need to follow these steps to prevent unencrypted Strategy application cache files from being stored on disk.
Cache and Cube files:
These changes require a patch to the Intelligence Server and modifications made through COMBrowser – an internal only tool. Please open a Technical Support Case to have these changes applied at the server level.
History List messages:
These settings exist at the Strategy project level. The project level settings must be enabled on any Strategy project where HIPPA governed data will be used.
Following these instructions has two changes to the Strategy project functionality:
1. History List Messages will be disabled. This is required as the cached content of history list messages are not encrypted.
2. Document caching will be disabled. This will prevent document cache files from being created, including those that are not encrypted. Performance may also be impacted, as formatted results are not cached and thus must be generated from the underlying encrypted report caches each time a document is requested.
Steps to enable project level settings:
Document and history list caches in formats such as PDF, Excel etc. are not encrypted since the encryption settings are only applicable to report and cube caches. To prevent creating and storing unencrypted document caches, document caching needs to be disabled at the project level:

2. Set the Maximum number of messages per user in Project Configuration > Project Definition > History List to 0

Note: A message will be displayed if a user tries to send to History List, indicating that they are not allowed to create the message because of the governing setting. This effectively will disable the History List functionality for users.
