Can Distribution Services burst a report at a lower-level attribute hierarchy but delivery results via email based on a higher-level attribute in MicroStrategy 9.x and 10.x?

QUESTION:
Can Strategy Distribution Services burst a report at a lower-level attribute hierarchy but delivery results via email based on a higher-level attribute in Strategy 9.x and 10.x?
For example, in Strategy Tutorial project, the Customer hierarchy is defined as Country > Region > State > City > Customer. A user needs information for a specific Country or Region but the break-down of the information needs to be by State.

  1. Consider the attributes Customer Region, Customer State, Customer City and Customer.
  2. Assign security filters to "Regional managers" users. Each user for one region.
  3. Create a report with Customer City / Customer data.
  4. A subscription is needed where each "regional manager" will receive one report per state belonging to its region.

ANSWER:
An email bursting option is currently not available in Strategy 9.x and 10.x. In addition, it is not possible to configure the break-down in the subscriptions, this should be defined within the report. An enhancement request has been logged to provide this functionality in a future release of Strategy.

ACTION:
Strategy will continue to investigate and post updates as soon as they are available.

WORKAROUND:

  1. Add Customer State to the page-by section and expand the report to different spreadsheets (when delivered via Distribution Services).
  2. Filter by region and use file-bursting subscriptions (one per Customer State).
  3. Create duplicates of the report with State filter and create a dynamic recipient list subscription.
