SUMMARY:
This technote explains the effect DHTML has when trying to pass prompt answers or selector values dynamically through Edit Links. When DHTML is turned off, passing prompt answers is not possible and there are workarounds listed below.
SYMPTOM:
When using Edit Links when DHTML mode is turned off in Web Preferences, Edit Links are not passing prompt answers or selector values from the source document to the target document.
DHTML Setting in Web Preferences:
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Create an edit link in a document that links to another document and answers with the same prompts as the source.
2. Turn off DHTML in Web Preferences (screenshot above).
3. Execute the document and click the Edit Link.
4. The new window will run the document, but the user will be prompted again.
CAUSE:
This is working by design. To pass values dynamically, DHTML needs to be turned on.
WORKAROUND:
The workarounds are to either:
- Turn DHTML on (as seen in Web Preferences screenshot above), or
- Use SDK to pass answer XML through a hidden input form (per KB10295)
