KB47416: Single File Web Page files are created when exporting Visual Insight dashboards to Excel XP/2003 that cannot be imported back into MicroStrategy Web

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy Web 9.4.x, when exporting a Grid visualization to Excel with the export preference set to Excel 2003, the file saves as a 'Single File Web Page' instead of an Excel Workbook. However, when attempting to use data import to bring the exported file back into Strategy Web 9.4.x, the import cannot read the file properly, like shown below.
 
 
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

• Set the Strategy Web Preference for Export Reports to Excel XP/2003.
  

• Create a Grid visualization.
  

• On the Grid, select Export > Excel.
   
  

• Select "Save As" from the Export options.
  

 
CAUSE:
This is working as designed in Strategy Web 9.4.x. This type of file is not supported when importing using Data import.
 
ACTION:
Change the export setting to Excel 2007. Or when exporting, choose the "Save As" option and change the file format to Excel Workbook (or any other Excel version).
