KB47434: "TypeError: Cannot read property "getAttribute" of null" error message appears when collapsing a dataset that contains no attributes in MicroStrategy Web 9.3

When attempting to collapse a dataset, from the Dataset Objects section that does not contain any attributes, the following JavaScript error appears in MicroStrategy Web 9.3 when using Google Chrome: TypeError: Cannot read property 'getAttribute' of null

SYMPTOM:
When attempting to collapse a dataset, from the Dataset Objects section, that does not contain any attributes, the following JavaScript error appears in Strategy Web 9.3.0 when using Google Chrome:
 
 
 


TypeError: Cannot read property 'getAttribute' of null
 at unknown function (e)
 at unknown /**/) {
return Strategy

 
The error differs slightly based on what browser is being used.  Below is the error message found when using Firefox:

TypeError: Cannot read property 'getAttribute' of null at unknown function (e) at unknown /**/) { return Strategy

  
Below is the error found when using Internet Explorer:

TypeError: span is null

 at http:///MicroStrategy/javascript/tree.js?v=-46603703:1

 
CAUSE:
This is a known issue in Strategy Web 9.3.
 
ACTION:
This issue has been addressed with Strategy 10. Upgrade to take advantage of the fix.
 
WORKAROUND:
Add an attribute to the dataset with the issue.  As long as the dataset has an attribute, this error will not be thrown.
