KB47549: "com.microstrategy.utils.cache.CacheException: Connection refused" error occurs when rendering an ESRI Map in MicroStrategy Web

Error when running an ESRI Map in a report services document in an environment having a proxy or firewall

SYMPTOM:
When running an ESRI Map in a report services document in an environment having a proxy or firewall the following error message is thrown:

com.Strategy.utils.cache.CacheException: Connection refused

CAUSE:
One possible cause for this issue is that the proxy or firewall in the environment is blocking requests to the ArcGIS server that the ESRI Map widget is attempting to reach.

ACTION:
Contact your network administrator to make sure that communication to the ArcGIS server is not blocked. You can find out which servers the ESRI Map widget will attempt to contact by checking the esriConfig.xml file. If you are on Strategy 9.4.1 Hotfix 2 or above, you may have two copies of this file: the user-configurable file in your /plugins directory and the default file in your /WEB-INF/xml/config directory.

  • If you have configured the user-configurable file to point to an on-premise or other GIS server different from the default server, make sure any network components between your Strategy Web server and the GIS server are not blocking communications.
  • If you are using the default out of the box configuration, ensure that the *.arcgis.com domain is allowed. At the time this article is published, the public DNS records for this domain are:
    • 50.19.238.218
    • 107.22.236.124
