"It is not possible to create a Server PSN..." error message is seen in EMProjectMover.log after an unsuccessful transfer of the Enterprise Manager project during the Enterprise Manager initialize step in MicroStrategy 9.x

SYMPTOM:
The following error message is seen in EMProjectMover.log after an unsuccessful transfer of the Enterprise Manager project during the Enterprise Manager initialize step with the Enterprise Manager metadata located in Microsoft SQL Server in Strategy 9.x. This error appears after the project transfer process ends.

It is not possible to create a Server PSN because the default server definition is pointing to another Metadata different than the specified previously.

The log file contains this error even if the Intelligence Server metadata and Enterprise Manager configurations are correct.

CAUSE:
This issue occurs for certain Microsoft SQL Server versions (SQL Server 2005 or 2008). The Enterprise Manager project is successfully appended to the existing metadata but it fails to communicate the success status.

WORKAROUND:

  1. Install Enterprise Manager Console on a different machine.
  2. Execute the initialize step from the freshly installed Enterprise Manager Console.
  3. The existing Enterprise Manager Console can be used to configure Enterprise Manager projects and schedule data loads.
