This article explains a situation where error message "Insufficient information to connect to the data source." might display when connecting to a HIVE database.

SYMPTOM:
A user tries to create a DSN to a Hive database in command line.  When a user enters the command './mstrconnectwiz -console', they see the following syntax:

ka04W000000Oaj2QAC_0EM440000002HFe.png

Upon entering the DSN information, the user gets the following error message:

Insufficient information to connect to the data source.

CAUSE:
One possible cause is that the syntax to create a Hive DSN is incorrect.  Specifically, it is missing the username and password to the database.
ACTION:
The correct syntax to create a DSN to a Hive database in command line is the following:
./mstrconnectwiz HIVE DataSourceName HostName PortNumber DatabaseName
For example,
./mstrconnectwiz HIVE name_of_DSN 11.11.11.11 1433 DatabaseName -u:username -p:password
