KB47754: Project Configuration is unavailable (greyed out) for all projects in all project sources on a local machine when logged in as the Administrator user in MicroStrategy Developer 9.x - 10.x

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

This technical note outlines a behavior observed when trying to edit the project configuration for a project source, in MicroStrategy Developer.

SYMPTOM:
Upon logging into a project source regardless of connection type, Project Configuration is greyed out for all projects in all project sources on that machine in Developer.

CAUSE:
One possible cause of Project Configuration being greyed out is a missing component, "Strategy Server Administrator". This component is required on the local machine to use Project Configuration in Developer. This affects 2-tier and 3-tier project sources.

ACTION:
Install the missing "Strategy Server Administrator" on the local machine.

WORKAROUND:
Certain Project Configuration settings can be viewed/changed in Command Manager if installing that component on the local machine is not possible. The outlines to view/make changes to existing Project Configuration settings can be found in the Project_Configuration_Outlines folder in the Outlines window.
