KB47810: How to hide the Trusted Authentication link on the login page using the MicroStrategy Web SDK 9.4.1

Community Admin

• Strategy

Scenario: The administrator has Trusted Authentication Request enabled as the default login mode in Strategy Web.  In the event that a user is unable to login using trusted authentication, the administrator has the user login using standard authentication (the default Strategy login mode).  When the user is redirected to the login page, the user will see links to connect with other login modes below the Login button.  However, since the user was redirected due to the fact that the user was unable to login using trusted authentication, providing the user a link to login using trusted authentication may not be desirable.

Note: Removing trusted authentication as a valid login mode on the Administrator page is not a valid option, as then, no user will not be able to login using trusted authentication.

Using the Web Customization Editor to create a plug-in

Strategy SDK provides a Web Customization Editor that can be used to create a customization plug-in. The following steps show how to create the plug-in to remove the Trusted Authentication Request link using Strategy SDK 9.4.1:

  1. Launch the Web Customization Editor.
  2. Create a new plug-in and give it a meaningful name. For example: RemovingTrustedLink. (For step by step instructions on creating a new plug-in, please navigate to Home > Web SDK > Customizing Strategy Web > Web Customization Editor > Features and Customizable)
  3. Click in Strategy Web Configuration inside the Application Settings view to expand the hierarchical tree. The expanded list comprises the different settings that can be modified to perform customizations.
  4. Right-mouse click Styles and select Create Transform to launch the Transform Creation Wizard.
  5. Click Browse... next to the Source folder text field to select the src folder and click OK.
  6. Enter the following information for the rest of the text fields:
Package: ##Any package the client wants to use##
    Name: Custom_LoginXHTMLTransform
Transform description: This transform will not show the trusted authentication request link on the login page.
    Superclass: com.Strategy.web.app.transforms.LoginXHTMLTransform
  7. Click Next.
  8. Click the check box button for void renderSSPAuthenticationLink(MarkupOutput out, WebEvent event) and click Next.
  9. Click Finish. Custom_LoginXHTMLTransform.java opens in the editor.
  10. The following line should be the only line in this method:

    return;

  11. Save the file.
  12. Navigate to Strategy Web Configuration > Styles
  13. Double click on LoginStyle.
  14. Click the "Change" button for Transform: LoginXHTMLTransform.  Change it to the new transform created above (Custom_LoginXHTMLTransform).
  15. Save the changes.
  16. Restart the Web Server.

The example provided in this document is provided “as-is” to the user and assumes that the user:

  • Can program, compile (e.g. javac, jikes, etc.), and execute Java programs

  • Have all the necessary tools to create Java applications (JDK, IDE, etc.)
  • Has access to the Strategy SDK documentation.
  • Has read the customization warning at the bottom of this document

PREREQUISITES:

For the sample to work, the Strategy Web JAR files must be accessible by the Java Runtime
Environment. The Strategy Web JAR files can be found under:

  • Strategy Web Universal (JSP): {web_root}/WEB-INF/lib directory.
  • Strategy Web (.NET): Program Files\Common Files\Strategy directory.

Note:

More elaborate programs will require additional library files and are out of the scope of this document.
