KB47980: "Error: SQL Generation CompleteQueryEngine encountered error: ExecQuery failed. MDX Execution failed. [...]" error message appears when using dynamic date qualification in MicroStrategy Developer 9.4.1 against a SAP BW data source.

This article describes an issue with generating MDX against SAP BW in MicroStrategy 9.4.1

SYMPTOM:
When a user qualifies on a date attribute using dynamic dates in Strategy Developer 9.4.1 against a SAP BW data source, the following error appears when executing the report:
Error: SQL Generation CompleteQueryEngine encountered error: ExecQuery failed. MDX Execution failed. Error type: JCO layer error. JCOStatement.executeQuery failed. java.lang.Exception: Error during MDX Query Execution Error during Bapi Execution: Value <value> for attribute <attribute> is unknown at com.Strategy.Database.JCO.JCOStatement3.executeQuery(Unknown Source). Connection String: N/A;. Connection String: N/A; SQL Statement: <SQL statement> ..Error in Process method of component: QueryEngineServer, Project <project>, Job <job>, Error Code=-2147212544

This happens because an invalid MDX query is generated for the qualification.
On the other side, no error message is seen when a static date is used in the qualification, instead of a dynamic date.

CAUSE:
This is a known issue in Strategy 9.4.1.

ACTION:
This issue has been resolved in Strategy 10. Upgrade to take advantage of the fix
