Symptom

The value of a derived metric is displayed as blank in a document grid if the attribute form, which is used in the derived metric's definition, is not included in the document grid in Strategy Web.

Steps to reproduce

1. Create a report with the Category and Subcategory attributes and Revenue metric.
2. Create a derived metric in the report whose definition is Max(@DESC){~}
3. The report looks as follows. Save the report.

4. Create a document using the above report.
5. The document grid that has the Category, Subcategory(only ID form) , Revenue, and the derived metric. The derived metric is displayed as blank as follows:

If you add the DESC form of Subcategory, the values are then displayed

Up until Strategy Web 9.3.1, the values were displayed correctly without having the DESC form in the grid as shown below.

Cause

This is working as designed in Strategy Web 9.4.1. Up until Strategy Web 9.3.1, derived metrics defined on the dataset would be evaluated in the dataset. In 9.4.1, however, derived metrics are evaluated in the document after data is returned in the grid. For this specific case, the product obtains data only for Subcategory@ID. After that, it will calculate the derived metric but finds that the DESC form is missing.

Action

Define the derived metric in the document.
1. Right mouse click the Subcategory attribute to create a derived metric (Maximum).

2. Place this derived metric in the grid.
3. Edit the derived metric and specify the DESC form by adding “@DESC”.

4. The derived metric can now display the DESC form.
