KB483676: The Metadata Option Is Grayed Out When Using Configuration Wizard in the Developer Instance of a Cloud Environment.

Juliana Schoettler

Product Manager, Senior • MicroStrategy

This article explains why the metadata option is not available in the Developer instance of a provisioned cloud environment.

Description

When attempting to configure the metadata via Configuration Wizard in the Developer instance of a cloud environment, the Metadata option isn't available as a repository type to configure.

Steps to Reproduce

  • Log into the Developer instance in the provisioned cloud environment. To learn how to access Developer, see How to Access Your Services.
  • Open Configuration Wizard and select Create Metadata, History List and Enterprise Manager Repositories.

  • The Metadata option is grayed out. Only History List and Statistics & Enterprise Manager Repository are available as options.

Why is this happening?

This is a defect. When installing only Developer, the installer omits a registry key included in the installation of other components. It also happens on machines that only have Developer installed. This means that the configuration must be done using the server instance of cloud.
This is a limitation of the 64 bit version of Configuration Wizard, regardless of running on Windows or Linux machine. To create metadata shell, either do it through macfgwizw.exe which is 32-bit launcher of configuration wizard or do it on a machine where there is an Intelligence Server installed.
You can find macfgwizw.exe at C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Strategy.

Solution

Workaround

  • Access the server instance of the cloud environment via SSH or VNC. To learn how to access the server instance, see How to Access Your Services.
  • Open Configuration Wizard from there. You can find it on Linux in the
    /opt/mstr/MicroStrategy/bin
    folder.
