KB484361: Connect Using Oracle JDBC Driver When the Password Consists of Only Spaces

Yang Huang

Quality Engineer, Principal • MicroStrategy

This knowledge base article describes how to connect Oracle in MicroStrategy using shipped JDBC driver when the user password consists of only spaces.

SYMPTOM

When you create an Oracle DB role on Strategy web using JDBC connection string and spaces as password, you may have error message: [HY000:0: on SQLHANDLE] [Strategy][Oracle JDBC Driver]Kerberos Authentication is not supported by this Oracle Server. The driver attempted Kerberos authentication because the AuthenticationMethod connect option was "auto" and no username/password was specified. Below is an example:
JDBC connection string: JDBC;DRIVER={com.Strategy.jdbc.oracle.OracleDriver};URL={jdbc:Strategy:oracle://<hostname>:<portnumber>;ServiceName=<servicename>}
UID: u_space
PWD:           (The password is ten spaces)
After click on the DB role to connect, you will get below screenshot error message pops up.

WORKAROUND

Please enclose the space password with the curly braces {}. Then the connection would work fine.
