KB484369: The error, "missing column [metadata_db_type] in table [platform_analytics_wh.platform_analytics_wh.lu_metadata]" appears after upgrading to MicroStrategy 2020 Update 2

Scott Rowley

Director, Application Security Engineering • MicroStrategy

After upgrading to MicroStrategy 2020 Update 2, the MicroStrategy Platform Analytics Consumer does not start. It displays the error, "missing column [metadata_db_type] in table [platform_analytics_wh.platform_analytics_wh.lu_metadata]."

Description

Strategy 2020 Update 2 contains a number of stability, performance optimizations, and enhancements to the Strategy Platform Analytics Consumer. After upgrading to Strategy 2020 Update 2, the Strategy Platform Analytics Consumer may not start automatically. This is likely due to an incomplete upgrade.

Why is this happening?

When the Platform Analytics Consumer is upgraded without also upgrading the Platform Analytics Repository, the components are out of sync. This issue is identifiable by looking in the platform-analytics-consumer.log for the following error:

PASessionFactory main - Error initializing Hibernate session factory. Please double check the database configuration. Exiting...Schema-validation: missing column [metadata_db_type] in table [platform_analytics_wh.platform_analytics_wh.lu_metadata].

If you observe this in your error log, the issue should be resolved by completing the upgrade of the Platform Analytics repository.
