KB485375: Error “Syntax error: Exception parsing query near '''” is seen when running reports against Denodo 8 and the Parameterized Query is enabled

Yang Huang

Quality Engineer, Principal • MicroStrategy

Symptom
When running reports against Denodo 8 server and if the Parameterized Query is enabled, we probably encounter errors like below:
Syntax error: Exception parsing query near '''
Syntax error: Exception parsing query near 'F62696E617279'
Syntax error: Exception parsing query near 'values'
However, if we check the executed queries from Query Details, and run them from Denodo VQL client, they can be executed normally and return correct result.
Cause
There’re some known issues from Denodo server and the JDBC driver cause such errors, however these issues have been addressed in the latest Denodo update and the latest JDBC driver. Another probable cause is that the major version of JDBC driver is different from the version of Denodo server.
Action

  1. Upgrade Denodo VDP server to latest update which can be found and downloaded from the Denodo support site;
  2. Upgrade Denodo JDBC driver in the MSTR iserver machine to use the driver which distributed along with Denodo update, e.g. driver can be found in the folder from Denodo server: <DENODO_HOME>/tools/client-drivers/jdbc

Appendix
Denodo server version that works for this article: Denodo v8 update20220126
Denodo JDBC driver version that works for this article: 8.0.3
Version:
11.3.5
