KB485524: ESRI maps render incorrectly in Workstation local mode after upgrading Workstation to 2021 Update 5 or newer

Jialiang Ying

Quality Engineer, Principal • MicroStrategy

This article explains how to resolve an issue with the display of ESRI maps after upgrading to 2021 Update 5 or newer.

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.

Description

ESRI maps render incorrectly in Workstation local mode after upgrading to Strategy 2021 Update 5 or newer. The following error message appears when attempting to load the ESRI map, "Unable to create the map. Please check your connection. You can configure an internet proxy through your computer's settings."
This occurs if you have previously opened the ESRI map in Workstation local mode using a version prior to 2021 Update 5 and then open it after upgrading to 2021 Update 5 or later.

Why is this happening?

The ESRI token is cached once a user opens the ESRI map in Workstation local mode. Starting in Strategy 2021 Update 5, ESRI maps were upgraded and the existing cached ESRI token is no longer applicable.

Solution

Delete the cached ESRI token and relaunch Workstation.
Mac
Under User > [your user name] > Library > Containers > com.Strategy.Workstation.DossierEditor > Data, delete

ersiToken.txt
.
Windows
Under C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming\MicroStrategy\Strategy Workstation, delete
ersiToken.txt
.
