KB485827: Kerberos Login Fails After Upgrading MicroStrategy 2021 to Update 8 or above

Menglu Xia

Product Owner, Principal • MicroStrategy

This article resolves an issue in which the user fails to log in to MicroStrategy Web/Library with Kerberos authentication.

Description

Starting in Strategy 2021 Update 8, JDK is upgraded to 11.0.17. In JDK 11.0.17, the RC4_HMAC_MD5 (Rivest Cipher 4 with hashed message authentication code using the Message-Digest algorithm 5) encryption for Kerberos authentication is deprecated and disabled by default. As a result, you may not be able to log into Strategy Web/Library using Kerberos authentication. This article describes workarounds you can implement to resolve this issue.

Symptom

After upgrading to Strategy 2021 Update 8, using Kerberos to login Strategy Web/Library may produce the following errors:

  • Strategy Web gives an error "No valid credentials provided"
