KB485934: After Enabling "Use Locale Default", the Grid Format Differs From the Example

Starting with the release of MicroStrategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.
Symptom:
After upgrading to MicroStrategy 2021 Update 8, you can set your language preference in Library Web and an Administrator can set the desired format for each smart attribute in the language object editor. You can also enable the Use Language Default setting to apply the default customized format for a language. However, you might see format results for certain languages that differ from the example. This behavior might occur in grids, visualizations, selectors, and in text fields.

Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Set My Language to Chinese (Traditional) and for the month interval smart attribute, set the default format pattern to 2022/7月.
  2. Create a dossier and add the month interval smart attribute.
  3. Right-click on the object in the dataset, grid, or visualization.
  4. Choose Number Format > Use Language Default.
  5. Depending on your system, multiple format results display:

I-Server Localed in Windows

I-Server Localed in Linux

ImageImage

Cause:
Different datetime format symbols are used depending on the platform where the I-Server is located. When I-Server is running on a Windows platform, the datetime format symbols are sourced from the Windows API. When I-Server is running on a Linux platform, the datetime format symbols are sourced from the International Components for Unicode (ICU) library. Similarly, the format symbols in iOS Mobile library use the iOS standard. Different standards cause different format symbols. All the format examples are currently based on the ICU standard. As a result, format results display differently from the format examples.

See the tables below for the formatting differences per language:
