KB486153: Gateway Drivers Upgrades in MicroStrategy One Update 11

Yang Huang

Quality Engineer, Principal • MicroStrategy

Introduction:

We want to inform you about a crucial update regarding the driver manager OpenSSL libraries and our ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) drivers. OpenSSL 1.1.1, a widely-used cryptographic library, reached its End of Life (EOL) on September 11, 2023. To align with industry standards and ensure security, we have made significant upgrades to our Driver Manager and ODBC drivers to support OpenSSL 3.x.

What's New:

1. Driver Manager Upgrade:
Our Driver Manager has been upgraded to support OpenSSL version 3.x. This upgrade is essential as OpenSSL 1.1.1, which has reached its end of life, is no longer receiving security updates. By transitioning to OpenSSL 3.x, we ensure that our drivers utilize the latest security features and protocols to keep your data connections secure.
It also fixes the security vulnerabilities listed on the following page: https://www.openssl.org/news/vulnerabilities-3.0.html.*
2. ODBC Driver Upgrades:
Our ODBC drivers for Redshift, Oracle, and DB2 have been upgraded to the latest version, which fully compatible with OpenSSL 3.x, further enhancing security and compatibility.

  • Release note of Redshift ODBC driver 08.00.2183: https://www.progress.com/odbc/release-history/amazon-redshift
  • Release note of Oracle ODBC driver 08.02.2888: https://www.progress.com/odbc/release-history/oracle-database
  • Release note of DB2 ODBC driver 08.02.0455: https://www.progress.com/odbc/release-history/ibm-db2

Impact on Your Environment:

Enhanced Security: This upgrade is essential to maintain the security of your data connections. This ensures that your sensitive information remains protected against potential vulnerabilities.
What you might need to do: You might need to regenerate your certificate files and keys since OpenSSL has been upgraded to 3.x.

In the future:

Due to driver defects or compatibility issues, some drivers have not been upgraded.
For ODBC drivers that have not been upgraded in this release, Strategy (MSTR) will continue to use the older library files. These old driver library files will still function as expected. Once we have the updated version, we will provide the driver packages along with instructions on how to apply them to your environment in this article.
If you have any questions or need assistance with the process, please do not hesitate to contact our support team. We are here to help you make a seamless transition and ensure the continued security and reliability of your data connections.
