The following error explains the error that users may encounter when attempting to start the Strategy Enterprise Manager Service after configuring a repository with MySQL database for the first time.
When you attempt to start the Strategy Enterprise Manager service after you configure the Enterprise Manager repository with a MySQL database, the service can't be restarted, and the following error message appears:
com.Strategy.maem.exceptions.EMException: javax.management.RuntimeMBeanException:java.lang.NullPointerException at com.Strategy.maem.remote.EMRemotelmpl.invokeFunction(EMRemoreImpl.java:143) at com.Strategy.maem.remoteEMRemoteImpl.start(EMRemoteImpl.java:239) at com.Strategy.maem.emservice.EMServiceLauncher$1.run(Unknown Source) at java.base/java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:829)Caused by: javax.management.RuntimeMBeanException: java.lang.NullPointerException ...Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException at com.Strategy.maem.configuration.XSDConfigurationDelegate.load(Unknown Source) at com.Strategy.maem.configuration.ConfigurationEM.getDefaultLogging(Unknown Source) at com.Strategy.maem.emservice.EMService.start(Unknown Source) ...MSTRExec Error: Exiting with error -1 (0xFFFFFFFF): MExec::ApplicationProxy_Impl::Run: Attempt to 'start' failed with error code -1 (0xFFFFFFFF)
This issue is caused by the MySQl driver ANSI version. Strategy recommends using the Unicode version of MySQL ODBC Driver. For more information and the download link, see https://www.microstrategy.com/en/support/drivers-and-connectors .
The different drivers are identified at the end of the library names using a "w" (for wide characters) for the Unicode driver and an "a" for the ANSI driver. For example,
libmyodbc8w.sovs.
libmyodbc8a.so. For more information, see https://dev.mysql.com/doc/connector-odbc/en/connector-odbc-installation.html .
Install MySQL ODBC driver Unicode version and recreate the DSN for the Enterprise Manager repository
