KB486200: Attempting to connect to an SaaS data source produces the error, "Error while attempting to use REST API: Couldn't resolve host name”

Jinlei Cai

Quality Engineer, Senior • MicroStrategy

This article details how to resolve an error that occurs when attempting to connect to an SaaS data source.

Symptom

Users may encounter the following error when using the Simba ODBC driver to connect to an SaaS data source:

Error while attempting to use REST API: couldn’t resolve host name.

Cause

Starting in Strategy ONE Update 12, SaaS ODBC drivers are shipped instead of JDBC drivers for customers connecting to SaaS when performing data import in Strategy Workstation and Web.

The behavior of ODBC and JDBC is not the same. This includes https or http in the "Host Name" connection parameter that is allowed in JDBC, but not some SaaS gateways such as PayPal, HubSpot, Marketo, and Shopify.

Action

Check if https:// or http:// is included in the "Host Name" connection parameter. If it is, remove it from host name.
