KB486401: When clicking on an action button of a Strategy Insights email notification, the user is not redirected to the Insight

Cesar Mota

Senior Cloud Support Engineer III • MicroStrategy

In Strategy Library, once a KPI visualization is added as a Strategy Insight, the Insight Engine Service is looking for trends and outliers. When a trend or an outlier is detected, if email notifications are enabled for Strategy Insights, users receive an email in their email address inbox, usually containing action buttons redirecting them to the Strategy Insight trend or outlier just found. When the action button does not work properly, users cannot access the particular Strategy Insight. This article explains this symptom and how to resolve this issue so that users can access the Strategy Insights from the action button of the Insight email notification.

Symptom

As a result of having added a KPI visualization in a dossier in Strategy Library as a Strategy Insight and having enabled email notifications for Strategy Insights, users will receive Strategy Insight notification emails whenever the Insight Engine Service detects a trend or an outlier. These emails usually contain action buttons redirecting users to the particular Strategy Insight trend or outlier just found. When users click on this action button, users are not redirected correctly and cannot access the particular Strategy Insight trend or outlier.

Cause

The "libraryServerUrl" parameter of the "application.yaml" configuration file of the Insight Engine Service (in the path "<Install Path>/InsightService" of the Linux Strategy Cloud Environment (MCE) instance) does not contain the correct Library URL - but one including localhost domain -  making the redirect from the Insight email notification action button to the actual Strategy Insight trend or outlier to fail.

Solution

The proper Library URL must be included in the "libraryServerUrl" parameter of the "application.yaml" configuration file, and the Insight Engine Service and the Intelligence Server must be restarted. After that, the Insight email notification action button redirects the user correctly to the corresponding Strategy Insight trend or outlier.
The steps to resolve the issue are as follows:
1. In all Linux MCE instances, go to the Insight Service Engine path: /opt/mstr/MicroStrategy/install/InsightService
2. Open the "application.yaml" configuration file.
3. Find the "libraryServerUrl" parameter, located at the end of the text file.
4. Modify the value to the proper Library URL. Example:
https:// <Library Server> /StrategyLibrary
Please ensure not to add anything after "StrategyLibrary", such as "/" or "/app".
5. Restart the Insight Engine Service: In the path /opt/mstr/MicroStrategy/install/InsightService, run the following command:
./InsightEngine.sh restart
6. Restart the Intelligence Server (all machines, if a cluster).
7. Wait until the Insight email notification is received in the email inbox. The time it takes to receive it, depends on when the Insight Engine Service detects a trend or outlier of the Insight KPI triggering the Insight email notification delivery.
8. Click on the action button. Now the user should be redirected to the particular Insight.
