KB486890: How to Configure LDAP Authentication for Oracle in MicroStrategy ODBC

Rainiero Leon

Support Engineer • MicroStrategy

The article offers insights into the feasibility of configuring Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) authentication for Oracle within MicroStrategy's Open Database Connectivity (ODBC). It specifically details that Oracle's Driver does not support LDAP authentication.

Symptom

The customer is seeking to understand the possibility of implementing LDAP authentication for Oracle within Strategy's ODBC, similar to Oracle's LDAP authentication process for Oracle Database connections. This query is specifically geared towards Strategy's 2021 Update 7.

Cause

The problem stems from the absence of LDAP authentication support within Oracle's Driver, which precludes its concurrent use with Strategy's ODBC. This fundamental incompatibility is the primary cause of the unsuccessful attempts to launch the Intelligence Server using the mentioned Oracle ODBC configuration.

Solution

Oracle's Driver does not currently support LDAP authentication. However, potential solutions include:
1. Awaiting Oracle's release of updates that will include LDAP authentication support for their Driver, enabling its use with Strategy's ODBC.
2. Analyzing alternative authentication methods already supported by Oracle's Driver that can be utilized within Strategy's ODBC.
