KB486952: Error "Create EMMA report instance error. Please check the metadata" occurs when importing external data.

Sebastian Herrendorf

Senior Support Engineer • MicroStrategy

This Article describes a known issue when trying to import external data from MicroStrategy Web, Library, or Workstation, and how to fix it.

Symptom

When trying to import external data (MTDI cube) either from Strategy Web, Library, or Workstation, the following error is returned:

Create EMMA report instance error. Please check the metadata.
The object does not exist in the metadata.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Search for ID 4B43EC5548911FC01AF5D3ACE3F16256 in a project.
  2. Delete that object.
  3. Try to import external data while logged into that project.

Cause

The Blank EMMA Cube Report (4B43EC5548911FC01AF5D3ACE3F16256) is a template used by Strategy to create data import (MTDI) cubes. If it is missing in the project for any reason, Strategy is unable to import external data successfully.

Action

  1. Access a different project.
  2. Search for ID 4B43EC5548911FC01AF5D3ACE3F16256.
  3. Create an Object Manager or Workstation migration package of that object. It has no dependencies.
  4. Migrate the package into the impacted project
  5. Update schema
