KB487018: MicroStrategy ONE services are not starting automatically after machine reboot if the OS is RedHat Enterprise Linux 9.4 and above

Oliver Hingst

Principal Product Specialist • MicroStrategy

This article explains why after an installation of MicroStrategy ONE, services do not start at machine restart.

SYMPTOM

After installing Strategy ONE on a RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9.4 machine, it has been observed that once the installation is complete and the system is restarted, the services such as the Intelligence Server, PDF Export Engine and/or Messaging Service are not started even though the service was registered.

CAUSE

RHEL 9.x is using Systemd as the default init system to control the system services.  Strategy uses the original System V (SysV) init system found in other Linux and older UNIX systems.

RESOLUTION

In order for Systemd to run SysV init scripts, the following packages must be installed:
initscripts
chkconfig
These packages can be installed using the following commands executed as root:
dnf install initscripts
dnf install chkconfig
