KB487043: Configure Request Timeout for Command Manager

Chenxi Hu

Software Engineer, Senior • MicroStrategy

Starting in MicroStrategy ONE (December 2024), you can configure request timeout values for Command Manager. Use the following article to customize request timeout values.

Previous to Strategy ONE (December 2024), Command Manager uses uses a default 20 minute timeout value that can not be extended. Command Manager will then run a time consuming job and encounter timeout errors. Use the following steps to configure request timeout values:

  1. To enable custom configuration, add the
    enableOverridePreference
registry item with a value of
    1
    under the
    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\MicroStrategy\MicroStrategy Command Manager\Options\GeneralTab
    path.The value type can be
    REG_SZ
    or
    REG_DWORD.
If you are using a Linux machine, add the value to
    MSIReg.reg
    under the
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MicroStrategy\MicroStrategy Command Manager\Options\GeneralTab
    path.
  2. To define custom values for Command Manager request timeouts, add the
    requestTimeOut
registry item with a self defined value (the time unit is milliseconds) under the
    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\MicroStrategy\MicroStrategy Command Manager\Options\GeneralTab
    path.The value type can be
    REG_SZ
    or
    REG_DWORD.
If you are using a Linux machine, add the value to
    MSIReg.reg
    under the
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MicroStrategy\MicroStrategy Command Manager\Options\GeneralTab
path.Registry value names are case sensitive and will only be successful when they match the given name exactly. Self-defined values should be greater than 20 minutes (or 1,200,000 milliseconds). If you define a value less than 20 minutes, Command Manager will default to 20 minutes.
  3. After you set the registry value, restart Command Manager.
  1. Additional timeout preferences:
    1. isAliveRequestTimeoutMillis: Request timeout for requests sent for Intelligence Server health checks and requests sent to establish Intelligence Server connections. The time unit is milliseconds.
    2. RCMCacheTimeout: Refresh cluster membership cache timeout. After enabling
      enableOverridePreference
      , Command Manager creates a
      sys_defaults.properties
      file under the
      C:\Program Files (x86)\MicroStrategy\Command Manager
install path. This file contains preferences with default values. Edit the file to customize the default values and restart Command Manager.Note: If the
      enableOverridePreference
flag is deleted or set to
      0
      , then
      sys_defaults.properties
      is deleted.
