KB487050: How to Disable the "Replace With" Option for a Grid in MicroStrategy Library

Alejandra Rojas

Senior Cloud Support Engineer I • MicroStrategy

This article provides a comprehensive guide on how to disable the "Replace with" option that appears when right-clicking on any attribute or metric in a grid while viewing a dashboard in the MicroStrategy Library. This feature is especially useful for restricting user actions and preventing unnecessary data manipulation.

Introduction

The customer is exploring the possibility of disabling the "Replace with" option that appears when a user right-clicks on any attribute or metric within a grid while viewing a dashboard in the Strategy Library.
This request arises from the need to control user access and avoid inadvertent data alterations. Without proper management, it can lead to unnecessary data manipulation, thereby changing the intended data presentation.
While it is possible to disable the "Replace With" option in the Library view, it's important to note that this method also turns off the "Drill" option. To disable the "Replace with" option for a specific user, follow these steps:

Steps

  1. Open the Workstation window with the Navigation pane in smart mode.
  2. In the Navigation pane, click Users and Groups.
  3. Select an Environment from the upper-left drop-down.
  4. In the left pane, click All Users.
  5. Right-click on the user and choose Edit Privileges.
  6. Uncheck the following privileges under Client-Reporter: Web Advanced Drilling, Web Drill and Link, and Web Drill on Metrics.
  7. Save changes.
