KB487396: "Retrieving data from data connector failed....500 Internal Server Error.." when trying to import a file from sharepoint in Web or Library

Stefanie Polleri

Senior Cloud Support Engineer III • MicroStrategy

This article describes an issue when importing a file from sharepoint fails after having successfully connected via the CommunityConnectors to the sharepoint site and trying to import a chosen file.

Symptom

When trying to import a chosen file from sharepoint into Web the following error occurs:

ka0PW0000004rgrYAA_0EMPW00000J8CvV.jpeg

The DSSErrors show the following entries:

Retrieving data from data connector failed. Error in importing files. Please check the file to import. Error type: Data Import Error. Fail to fetch data. Please check whether IServer machine can access the data source. 500 Internal Server Error..2025-03-04 15:42:50.849 [HOST:xxx][SERVER:CastorServer][PID:5404][THR:15820][Database Classes][Error][UID:54F3D26011D2896560009A8E67019608][SID:3D256973038A3A41AA0A87D22DA25F3A][OID:0][ConnectionWrapper.cpp:438] Failed to connect to data source. Error message: Retrieving data from data connector failed. Error in importing files. Please check the file to import.

Cause

The URL request was being blocked as the sharepoint domain was not added to security.properties file in \CommunityConnectors\WEB-INF\classes.
If Community connector logs were set to DEBUG, this would show within logs as:
["{"code":500,"message":"RuntimeException. Request to the url is not allowed."}"]]

Action

Please follow https://community.strategy.com/article/Securing-Community-Connectors-with-whitelist?language=en_US.
After adding the domain to security.request.allowList within the security.properties file in \CommunityConnectors\WEB-INF\classes, files from sharepoint site can be imported.
