KB487469: What are the Platform Support Administrator user and Platform Support Administrators user group?

Vanessa Munoz

Cloud Support Expert I • MicroStrategy

This article describes the role of the "Platform Support Administrator" user and the "Platform Support Administrators" user group in providing server and project-level monitoring and administration without data access.

Introduction

The "Platform Support Administrator" user and "Platform Support Administrators" user group are meant to provide the ability to monitor and administer server and project-level configuration settings as a service provider without having the ability to access any data.

Guidelines

To enforce this, the Execute and Use/Execute access rights get revoked at runtime for the "Platform Support Administrators" user group so that any user within that group will not have permissions to execute reports, documents or dashboards regardless of the ACL permissions set on the underlying objects in the metadata.
The only exception to this rule is the Platform Analytics project under which execution rights are not modified at runtime. This was done so that users in the "Platform Support Administrators" user group could still access that data as part of their monitoring activities by default ( the usual Strategy security features such as connection mapping, project access, ACL permissions may still be leveraged to limit such access if it is a concern).
