KB5166: How to get the name of the DSN used to connect to the MicroStrategy Intelligence Server in MicroStrategy 10.x

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

This article discusses how to find the name of the DSN that is currently connected to the Intelligence Server.

To obtain the name of the Data Source Name (DSN) currently connected to the Strategy Intelligence Server, users should follow the steps below:
These Steps apply to a 64-bit Windows Intelligence Server machine:

  1. Open the registry on the machine where users installed Strategy Intelligence Server.
  2. Go to the following path:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Strategy\Data Sources\CastorServer

  3. Open the key named 'LOCATION'.
  4. The value of this key is the name of the DSN that Strategy Intelligence Server uses to connect to the Metadata.
  5. Go to the Open Data Base Connectivity (ODBC) Administrator in the Control Panel and check the configuration of the DSN used to obtain more information about the connection.

WARNING:
Modifying registry values incorrectly may cause serious, system-wide problems that may require the re-installation of Microsoft Windows NT. Any edit of the registry is done at the user's own risk. Since these are user-initiated changes, they are not covered by any Strategy warranty. If using Microsoft Windows NT, the user should backup the registry and/or update an Emergency Repair Disk (ERD) prior to alterations.
