KB5226: How do the locale preferences in MicroStrategy Web work?

All preferences in MicroStrategy Web have default values. This document explains how default values work for the locale setting.

All preferences in Strategy Web have default values. This document explains how default values work for the locale setting.

The first time a product is installed, it is set to default to the Language option at the system default level of the operating system of the web server. This is reflected in project defaults and user preference levels for both end-users and the administrator. 'Default' allows end user's browsers to pick up the browser language. If the browser language does not equal one of the listed choices, English is used (e.g. if it is a Greek browser and Greek is not a choice in the list, English is used). The language of the browser can be found by viewing Internet options > Languages > the first language on the list. If the system default locale setting is any of the other choices on the locale drop down list, it dictates the language end users see.

There are three options for users to view different languages:

  1. Set this option to 'default' which allows users to view the pages in the language set as the default by the administrator.
  2. Choose an option in the local drop down list. Strategy Web 7.x is then shown in the language chosen. (A new user session is created when this setting is changed.)
  3. Load project defaults to restore the locale setting to the system default value.
