KB5233: How to create a metric that ignores Custom Groups

Community Admin

• Strategy

To create a metric that ignores Custom Groups in Strategy Desktop 8.x, users must follow the procedures below.

An example of a report that uses this type of metric is as follows:

  • Create a Count Customers metric. Make sure that default dimensionality is chosen.

  • Save the metric.
  • Create a Total Count metric that ignores custom groups done on customers attribute. For Total Count metric, change dimensionality to 'Customer' that is the entire hierarchy for customers attribute. Then, change the filtering option to 'Ignore' and the grouping option to 'None'.

  • Save the metric.
  • Create a compound metric of 'Count %' to Total by using Count Customers metric and Total Customer Count metric that were created earlier.

  • In the metric editor, go to Tools > Formatting… The Formatting window opens. There, in the 'Number' tab, choose 'Percentage'. Select desired decimal point.
  • Save the metric.
  • Create a report that includes required metrics, attributes and custom groups.
  • Save the report.
  • Run the report.

NOTE: Names of metrics, attributes and hierarchy used in this document are based on the example report shown earlier. They need to be changed depending on the report users wish to create.

If attributes used in the custom group's elements come from different hierarchies, then all the relevant hierarchies should be included in the metric's dimensionality.
