This knowledge base article explains why 'Error Connecting to the Subscription Book Repository: Data source not found and no default driver specified.' occurs in MicroStrategy Narrowcast Server 9.4.x-10.x

SYMPTOM:
 
When users run a service that uses the (Web) Portal Information Transmitter Module (ITM), no cache is created on the repository and when users analyze the log files or in Monitor.exe, the following error message appears:
'Data source name not found and no default driver specified. Connection String: DSN=NC71;UID=sa;. FMManager.CreateModules - 771:E06- Error Connecting to the Subscription Book Repository: Data source not found and no default driver specified. Please make sure that the data source defined for the Subscription Book Repository exists on this machine.'
 
CAUSE:
This issue is occurs because the Portal ITM is not properly configured.
 
ACTION:
To solve this issue, users must follow the steps below:

  1. Access the Portal ITM configuration by double-clicking on it from the System Infrastructure\ Information Transmitter folder.
  2. Click on the 'Set Connection to Current SBR' button.
  3. Click on 'Ok' to make sure the Document Cache Repository is set to the current SBR.
  4. Run the service again.
