SYMPTOM:
The following error message appears in the log Delivery Engine log file when running a service in Strategy Narrowcast Server Delivery Engine. In addition, the service is not sent to the subscriptions when not using a Smart Host.

'VT336::SE]:2748: Error transmitting to 255F1BA49FF040678F29516E0CFB36C9 - 85018: at host 125.XXX.X.XX'

CAUSE:
As Smart Hosting is not being used, the Strategy Narrowcast Server Delivery Engine has been configured to use its own native Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) capabilities.

However, when pinging other machines both on and off the network, the administrator will find that other machines cannot be reached.

ACTION:
There are two options available to resolve this issue:

  1. Configure Strategy Narrowcast Server Delivery Engine to use a Smart Host by editing the device (such as MicroSoft Outlook 2000). On the 'Transmission' tab, check the box 'Use Smart Host Always' and enter the correct Internet Protocol (IP) Address in the 'Smart Host Address Box'.
  2. Change the permission of the Strategy Narrowcast Server Delivery Engine machine so that it can reach all machines both on and off the network.
