This article explains how to understand the log files from Narrowcast Server Subscription Portal.

Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.x - 10.x Subscription Portal has the ability to log errors into a log file.

In the Active Server Page (ASP) Interface, the function 'LogErrorXML' within Custom Library file 'ErrorCuLib.asp' actually logs errors in eXtensible Markup Language (XML) format in the Logs folder.

The Logs folder is located inside the application folder. The location by default on 64-bit machines is 'C:\Program Files (x86)\MicroStrategy\Narrowcast Server\Subscription Portal\asp\Logs'. The location by default on 32-bit machiens is 'C:\Program Files\MicroStrategy\Narrowcast Server\Subscription Portal\asp\Logs'.

A new log file (e.g., yyyy-mm-ddERR.log) is created every day and can be read through the 'ShowErrors.asp' page.

The XML structure of the log files is as follows:
<errMsg>
   <sortTime> 20010604195924 </sortTime>
   <time> 06/04/2001 7:59:24 PM </time>
   <user> (127.0.0.1) </user>
   <errID> C00452D6 </errID>
   <errDesc> Failed to open a connection to DSN 'null'. java.lang.NullPointerException null </errDesc>
   <errSrc> </errSrc>
   <file> CommonCoLib.asp </file>
   <ASPFunc> co_GetLocalesForSite </ASPFunc>
   <APIFunc> SiteInfo.getLocalesForSite </APIFunc>
   <comments> Error calling getLocalesForSite </comments>
   <errLevel> 1 </errLevel>
   <errOrigin> 1 </errOrigin>
</errMsg>

The parameters of the Error Log file are as follows:

  • 'ConnectionInfo' - Contains the information about the current session
