This article describes an issue where no cache is created in a MicroStrategy Web 9.4.1 - 10.x report even though users have all privileges and the report caching is enabled at the project level

SYMPTOM:
When users execute the following steps:

  1. Log into Strategy Web 9.4.1 - 10.x with all the privileges (analyst, reporter and viewer)
  2. Enable the report server caching at the project level
  3. Execute a report
  4. Inspect the cache monitor

Users note that a cache is not created. When users access the report again, it is re-executed.

CAUSE:
Users lack 'Use server cache' privilege under the subset 'Desktop application'. This privilege is necessary not only to use server cache but also to create server cache.

ACTION:
To resolve this issue, users must follow the steps outlined below:

  • Launch Strategy Desktop - Developer and log in as administrator.
  • Access the 'User Manager' and open the user in edit mode in the user editor.
  • Grant the user 'Use Server Cache ' privilege as illustrated below:

  • Save the changes, log into Strategy Web, execute a report and check that cache is being generated by inspection of the cache monitor.
