The MicroStrategy Intelligence Server API offers methods and interfaces to create a filter from scratch. This document focuses on the properties that need to be modified to make the date in the filter a Dynamic Date.

The Strategy Intelligence Server API offers methods and interfaces to create a filter from scratch. This document focuses on the properties that need to be modified to make the date in the filter a Dynamic Date. It compares first two filters, a date qualification with static date and a date qualification with dynamic date, then, provides a list of the properties that makes a DSS Time Node a Dynamic Date.
 
The Filter Expression:
Consider two filters:

  • Filter A - Static Date Qualification
    'Date ID is exactly 06/29/2001'
  • Filter B - Dynamic Date Qualification
    'Date ID is Today'

 
Filter A and B have the same Filter Expression:

The main difference is in the property DynamicDate. In Filter A, if this property is changed to DssTimeToday, the rest of the properties will take the same values as in Filter B.

The DynamicTime property specifies the level of the period (ThisMonth, ThisYear, Today, etc.). Its possible values come from the Enumeration EnumDssDynamicTime. Please, refer to the Strategy SDK Developer Reference for more information about this property.
 
The .Day, .Week, .DayOfWeek, .Month, and .Year properties are used to move the dynamic date plus or minus a certain offset below the level of the period. For instance, to get the second Tuesday of the Month the following code is be used:

With oTimeNode.Time 
    .DynamicTime = DssTimeThisMonth 
    .Week = 2 'Second Week 
    .DayOfWeek = 3 'Tuesday

To update the current month to change until the 10th of the next month:

In this case, if the date is February 9th, ThisMonth will still return January, but on February 10th, ThisMonth will return February.
