KB6252: What is the 'SetEmergencyReserveSize(): New size = 8388608' message in the MicroStrategy DSSErrors.log?

Community Admin

• Strategy

SUMMARY
The 'SetEmergencyReserveSize' value is hard-coded as 8MB and designates the amount of memory reserved for logging purposes when Strategy Intelligence Server experiences a shutdown. Under a shutdown condition, this reserve memory is released so that the server state/definition logging can proceed with enough memory to finish logging. The 'DSS Errors.log' contains the entry shown in the title to show that allocation of this reserve memory has been successful.
This message is logged when Strategy client and server applications start up. Thus, the initiation of a Strategy executable can be identified in the DSSErrors.log file by the presence of this message.
Note that the Strategy Web application launches within a Web application server, not as an independent executable. To locate startup times of Strategy Web, consult the application server logs. They are not recorded in DSSErrors.log.
