KB6493: How to Search an Object in MicroStrategy Intelligence Server SDK 9.x

Community Admin

• Strategy

MicroStrategy Intelligence Server API call IDSSSearch.Execute() is the call to use and search for an object.

Strategy Intelligence Server API call IDSSSearch.Execute() is the call to use and search for an object.

The following is a code sample to search for an attribute named 'Item' by the above API call.

Dim mySearch As IDSSSearch
Dim myResult As IDSSFolder
Dim myAttribute As IDSSAttribute

Set mySearch = mobjObjSource.NewObject(DssTypeSearch)

mySearch.NamePattern = "Item"
mySearch.Types.Add DssTypeAttribute

Set myResult = mySearch.Execute
Set myAttribute = myResult.Item(1)

The first step is to create a new search object by using IDSSSource::NewObject. The related parameters for the search object should, then, be specified. If searching by name, the parameter 'NamePattern' is the place to put the name. And IDSSSearch.Types.Add is used to specify what is the type of the object.

IDSSSearch::Execute() returns a IDSSFolder object, that may contain more than one results. To get a type specific handler for the result item, a type cast operation is needed (as shown in the last line of the above code).
The example provided in this document is provided “as-is” and user has read the following customization warning:
