KB6727: How to determine the ODBC Driver Execution Mode a 3-tier mode MicroStrategy Project is using to connect to the project metadata in MicroStrategy Intelligence Server

Community Admin

• Strategy

The following knowledge base article explains how to determine the ODBC Driver Execution mode used for connecting to the Metadata. It's recommended to be Multi-process mode.

The information about the driver execution mode that a Strategy Intelligence Server is currently using to run against the metadata is stored in the registry of the Strategy Intelligence Server machine.

It is located at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MicroStrategy\Data Sources\CastorServer

The key is called 'Flags'

  • If Flags = 4, the Server is running in Multi-process Mode
  • If Flags = 0, the Server is running in Multi-threaded Mode

NOTES:

  • Strategy only recommends the use of Multi-process mode for ODBC connectivity to the metadata for all database/ODBC driver configurations.
  • It is not recommended to make changes directly to the registry to modify the ODBC Driver Execution mode. The change should only be made though the Strategy Configuration Wizard by modifying the server definition.

WARNING:
Modifying registry values incorrectly may cause serious, system-wide problems that may require the re-installation of Microsoft Windows NT. Any edit of the registry is done at the user's own risk. Since these are user-initiated changes, they are not covered by any Strategy warranty. If using Microsoft Windows NT, the user should backup the registry and/or update an Emergency Repair Disk (ERD) prior to alterations.
