KB6748: Invalid caches are not cleared when users perform the 'Cleanup Invalid Caches' action in MicroStrategy Intelligence Server

Invalid caches are not cleared when users perform the 'Cleanup Invalid Caches' action in MicroStrategy Intelligence Server 9.x and later

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy intelligence Server 8.x and later, users right-click on the Cache Monitor and perform the 'Cleanup Invalid Caches' action; however, invalid caches still remain in the Cache Monitor.

CAUSE:
This issue happens because these report caches have a History entry. Invalid caches are not cleared if they are associated with a history list message.

ACTION:
Users first have to clear the associated history list entry, then perform the 'Cleanup Invalid Caches' action, to clear such invalid cache entries from the Cache Monitor.

For all report caches that do not have a History entry, performing the Cleanup Invalid Caches' action, does clear the invalid caches from the Cache Monitor.

Note: There is an option called 'Show Caches for History list messages' that appears when users right-click on Cache Monitor. Toggling this setting between on and off (checked and unchecked) determines whether invalid report caches that have a History entry, appear or do not appear in the Cache Monitor, respectively.

  • If the 'Show Caches for History list messages' setting is unchecked, then report cache entries that have a history association, disappear from the Cache Monitor as soon as the cache is invalidated.
  • If the 'Show Caches for History list messages' setting is checked, then report cache entries that have a history association remain in the Cache Monitor, even if the cache is invalid.

For difference between various types of report caches, refer to the following Strategy Knowledge Base Document:
KB5303-8X-2525 - What is the difference between invalidating, expiring, deleting, and purging a report cache in Strategy Intelligence Server 9.x and newer?
