KB7361: ’Unable to enumerate files and directories because the following error occurred: The system cannot find the path specified.’ Error message appears when accessing a virtual directory in Microsoft IIS

This KB addresses an error seen when accessing a virtual directory in Microsoft IIS.

SYMPTOM:
Users attempt to access a virtual directory in IIS and they see the following error message:

'Unable to enumerate files and directories because the following error occurred: The system cannot find the path specified.

 
Also note that to the left of the virtual directory is a red icon stating 'error'.

CAUSE:
This error message appears because the local path defined on the properties of the virtual directory is no longer valid. Either the location has changed or the folder, to which the virtual directory points, has been deleted.

ACTION:
To resolve this issue, change the local path so that it points to a valid directory.
