KB7689: How to search for objects that use a particular MicroStrategy function or operator in MicroStrategy Developer

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

This Technical Note describes how to search for objects that use a particular MicroStrategy function or operator in MicroStrategy Developer

Users may need to list all objects (e.g., metrics or attributes) containing a particular function or operator (e.g., ApplySimple or ApplyAgg). An example of such a need occurs when a modification had been made to the Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) so that the ApplySimple syntax should be changed to reflect the new database requirements.
In this case users may open each object in turn to view the definition and see whether changes are required. However, for a large project this would be time-consuming.

There is a more efficient way to find these objects without having to open each one individually. Users should follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Open Strategy Developer.
  2. Go to Schema Objects > Functions and Operators > Functions > Internal Functions.
  3. Right-click on the relevant function or operator (e.g., ApplyAgg) and choose the option to search for dependents.

This gives users a list of the objects that use that Strategy function. Thus, users can find out how many objects need to be modified.
