KB8012: ’The User with Name xxxxx already exists in the configuration’ error message appears when creating new users in MicroStrategy Developer

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy Developer, when the Administrator adds a user with a distinct Strategy Developer Login, but with the same Full Name as another user, the Administrator sees the following error message:

'The User with Name 'Full Name' already exists in the configuration.'

• Create a user with the Strategy Developer Login 'jsmith' and the Full Name 'John Smith'.
  

• Create a second user with the Strategy Developer Login 'jsmith2' and with the Full Name John Smith.
  

• Save the second user and the following error message appears:

  'The User with Name John Smith already exists in the configuration.'

  
  

 
CAUSE:
Strategy Developer currently requires that both the Strategy Developer Login and Full Name be unique. It is not currently possible to have two users with a different Full Name.
 
WORKAROUND:
The current workaround for this limitation is to add a unique identifier to the second Full Name such as 'John Smith (1)'.
