KB8097: How to change the default drill option for an attribute in MicroStrategy Desktop and in MicroStrategy Web

 
In Strategy Developer and in Strategy Web, when users click on an attribute element to perform a drill, the child attribute with the highest priority is the default drill path.
 
Consider, for example, the attribute Country in Strategy Tutorial. Country has two children: Region and Distribution Center. By default, users click on a Country element to drill and it drills to Region and not to Distribution Center.
 
To change the default drill path from Region to Distribution Center, users must follow the steps outlined below:

1. Go to Public Objects > Drill Maps and select New > Drill Map.
2. Click on the 'Down' button and add Distribution Center.
3. Select 'High' in the 'Priority' box.
4. Click on the 'Down' button again and add Region.
5. Ensure that the 'Priority' is set to Medium.
6. Click on the View menu and select View Drill Map Path List.
7. Select 'Tutorial Standard Drill Map', in the box Drill Map, to ensure all drills are still available.
8. Save and close as Drill_Map_1
9. Edit the report being used.
10. Select Data > Edit Drill Map.
11. Highlight the attribute Country under Local Template.
12. Click on the View menu and select View Drill Map Path List.
13. Select, in the Drill Map box, the Drill Map saved in Step 8 named Drill_Map_1
14. Save and close.
